British electric vehicle (EV) conversion specialist Arcade Cars has revealed its first model, the Sojourn, at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance during Monterey Car Week 2024.

Founded in 2023 by Rishav Kanoria and Felix Timmer, Arcade Cars focuses on transforming ex-military transport vehicles into luxurious and eco-friendly modes of transportation. According to Arcade Cars, the Sojourn is a reimagining of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon based on the Mercedes-Benz 230 GE model produced from 1979 to 2001, representing the culmination of the company’s efforts in its first 18 months of operation.

Partnering with fellow EV conversion specialist Everrati, Arcade Cars has equipped the Sojourn with an advanced electric powertrain. The EV comes with a 55kWh battery paired with a 153 horsepower and 300 Nm torque, delivering an estimated 150 miles of range. This collaboration allows the Sojourn to retain its classic charm while embracing the benefits of modern electric mobility.

“We’re delighted to be here in Pebble Beach giving the Sojourn the public debut it deserves,” said Rishav Kanoria, co-founder and CEO of Arcade Cars. “Since we first took the wraps off our redefined G Class, we’ve been inundated with expressions of interest.”

The Sojourn provides a range of customization options to suit individual tastes. Customers can choose between the original eight-seat ‘long-bench’ configuration or a six-seat option featuring bucket seats up front and fold-down seats in the rear. Modern amenities such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a retro-inspired Bluetooth system.

With its headquarters in London and operations in Austria and Germany, Arcade Cars’ unique approach involves selecting donor vehicles exclusively from former Swiss Army stock.

The debut of the Sojourn arrives at a time when even Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch its own all-electric G-Wagon, the G580 with EQ Technology, aimed for release in 2025. However, Arcade Cars is offering enthusiasts the opportunity to experience an electrified G-Wagon much sooner.

It is now available for pre-order, with a limited number of exclusive slots open during Monterey Car Week. The company projects to start initial customer deliveries in late 2024.
