ZEEKR Enters North American Market With Launch Of 001 And X Models In Mexico

ZEEKR has made its official entry into the North American electric vehicle (EV) market by launching two models in Mexico, the ZEEKR 001 and ZEEKR X SUV, marking a major step in its global expansion strategy.

The ZEEKR 001, a shooting brake-style EV, is priced starting at 988,000 Mexican pesos (around $54,850), while the X SUV starts at 799,000 Mexican pesos ($44,350). These prices represent a premium over their Chinese market counterparts, where the 001 and X start at around $36,990 and $27,500 respectively.

Moreover, this launch is part of a broader agreement between ZEEKR and its parent company, Geely Auto. In detail, the agreement aims to accelerate ZEEKR’s entry into the Mexican market, with Geely committing to major purchases of ZEEKR models and accessories for resale in Mexico through 2026.

Furthermore, ZEEKR’s expansion into Mexico is seen as a strategic move, potentially serving as a stepping stone for further growth in Latin America. The company is rapidly increasing its global presence, with plans to be active in 50 markets worldwide by the end of 2024.

The launch event in Mexico allowed potential buyers to experience the 001 and X models firsthand, also marking the closest these Chinese EVs have come to the United States (U.S.) market, though steep tariffs on Chinese EVs make a U.S. launch unlikely in the near term.

Notably, ZEEKR is rapidly expanding its retail presence to support its growth. The company seeks to have over 520 stores globally by the end of the year including 140 “ZEEKR Home” locations offering comprehensive services from sales to after-sales support. In addition, ZEEKR is investing in charging infrastructure with plans to build extensive networks of charging stations and ultra-fast charging piles.

As ZEEKR continues its aggressive expansion, the EV industry will observe how the company performs in the Mexican market and whether this move could assist in future plans for broader North American distribution.
