The journey began on March 28, 2024, when Xiaomi introduced the SU7 with three distinct versions. The Standard version, positioned as an entry point to the lineup, launched at RMB 215,900 ($29,800), while the Pro and Max versions were priced at RMB 245,900 and RMB 299,900 respectively. The market response was overwhelmingly positive, with delivery wait times stretching to 40 weeks at their peak and maintaining around 20 weeks even now.

Furthermore, to commemorate its 15th anniversary, Xiaomi has introduced a special red exterior color option for the SU7, available at RMB 9,000 ($1,230). Deliveries of this limited edition variant are scheduled to begin in March.

The sales trajectory tells a compelling story of rapid market acceptance. In 2024 alone, Xiaomi delivered 139,547 units, with December accounting for 25,815 deliveries. This performance significantly exceeded the company’s initial target of 100,000 units for the year. Building on this momentum, Xiaomi has set an ambitious goal of 300,000 deliveries for 2025.

Moreover, the company has announced the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance variant scheduled for launch in March 2025. Priced at RMB 814,900, the Ultra model features Xiaomi’s advanced HyperEngine V8s, capable of 1,548 horsepower and achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 1.98 seconds. Additionally, Xiaomi has revealed plans for its second model, the YU7 SUV, expected to debut in mid-2025.

Expanding Charging Infrastructure And Retail

To enhance the ownership experience, Xiaomi has developed a comprehensive charging infrastructure network. The company has partnered with 13 leading charging operators to integrate over 1.02 million charging stalls into its “Xiaomi Charging Map” application. This network spans 365 cities and covers 88.1% of highway service areas across China, with more than 800,000 DC fast chargers available. The app provides real-time information about station availability, power output, pricing, and associated costs.

Xiaomi is also expanding its physical presence rapidly. By the end of 2024, the company operated 200 retail stores across 58 cities, adding 50 new locations in December alone. The expansion continues in 2025, with plans to add 16 more stores in six new cities, including Hohhot and Luoyang. Service infrastructure has grown correspondingly, with 29 new service centers and authorized service centers opening in December 2024.

This successful entry into the EV market shows Xiaomi’s ability to leverage its technology expertise and brand recognition to establish itself as a serious contender in the automotive world. With the company’s integrated approach to vehicle development, charging infrastructure, and customer service, it shows a long-term commitment to the EV sector, potentially reshaping the landscape of China’s evolving automotive market.
