Xiaomi exceeded expectations by delivering more than 135,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in 2024, setting the stage for even more ambitious goals in the coming year. During a New Year’s Eve broadcast, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO Lei Jun announced the company’s new target of 300,000 deliveries for 2025.

A Rapid Journey into Automotive Success

This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering Xiaomi’s journey started just three years ago when the company declared its automotive aspirations in March 2021. The company’s first EV, the SU7 sedan, launched in March 2024 and showed immediate market appeal, selling out its entire 2024 production run within 24 hours of release.

The SU7’s success can be attributed to its competitive positioning in the market. Starting at RMB 215,900 (around $29,570), the model directly challenges Tesla’s Model 3. The entry-level variant features BYD’s LFP battery technology, providing a substantial 700 km (434 miles) range under China’s CLTC testing standard.

In addition, the premium SU7 Max model pushes these boundaries further, equipped with a 101 kWh NMC battery from CATL that delivers an 800 km (497 miles) range and generates 664 horsepower through its dual-motor configuration.

Expanding Retail and Manufacturing

To support this rapid growth, Xiaomi has established a noteworthy retail presence, opening 200 stores across 58 Chinese cities in 2024. The company’s direct-to-consumer sales model has proven particularly effective, with Lei Jun revealing that 30% of buyers place their orders online without even test-driving the vehicle.

Moving forward to 2025, Xiaomi has big plans for expansion as the company is currently constructing the second phase of its Beijing manufacturing plant, which will double the annual production capacity to 300,000 units when completed around June 2025. This expansion aligns with their plans to introduce two new vehicles: the high-performance SU7 Ultra in March and their first SUV model, the YU7, expected in June or July.

SU7 Ultra: Pushing Technological Boundaries

The SU7 Ultra, in particular, reveals Xiaomi’s goal of pushing technological boundaries. Already available for pre-sale at RMB 814,900 ($114,200), this performance variant contains outstanding specifications including 1,526 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.98 seconds.

Notably, the SU7 Ultra has already made headlines by completing the challenging Nürburgring circuit in 6:46:87, despite adverse weather conditions and a brief power loss during the run.

Xiaomi’s Growing Dominance in the EV Market

By leveraging its technology expertise and brand recognition, Xiaomi has established itself as a serious contender in the increasingly competitive EV market, setting the stage for what promises to be an even more ambitious 2025.
