Google Gemini should enable drivers to have more natural interactions with their vehicles.

Volvo Cars has announced that it is expanding its partnership with Google by adopting Gemini, an advanced AI assistant, in its vehicles. Volvo’s announcement comes on the heels of Google’s comments during its I/O conference, where the tech giant stated that it was looking to put Gemini in a variety of other places, including cars.
With its announcement, Volvo has become a pioneer in integrating Gemini into cars. According to Patrick Brady, Vice President of Android for Cars at Google, the integration of Gemini in Volvo’s vehicles will deepen the partnership between the two companies.
“For years, Google and Volvo Cars have collaborated closely to bring cutting-edge technology to connected cars. We’re excited to deepen this partnership, accelerating the pace of innovation that will not only improve the driving experience for Volvo customers but also set new benchmarks for the automotive industry,” Brady said.
According to a press release from Volvo, drivers of Volvo cars with Google built-in will be among the first to experience Gemini in their vehicles. Gemini is expected to replace Google Assistant in Volvo cars with Google built-in later this year.

According to The Verge, Google Gemini should allow Volvo drivers to have more natural conversations with their car. Thanks to Gemini’s advanced capabilities, Volvo drivers should be able to access features like language translation, navigational help, and finding specific locations. They would even be able to access information from their vehicle’s user manual by asking Gemini a question.
According to Volvo, these improvements should reduce the cognitive load of drivers, allowing them to stay focused on driving. Alwin Bakkenes, head of global software engineering at Volvo Cars, discussed the potential of Gemini’s rollout to Volvo’s vehicles.
“We strive to deliver human-centric technology, and a stunning customer experience is an essential part of this. Through this partnership with Google, we are able to bring the very latest features and capabilities from the leading consumer ecosystem into our products first. With our expanding partnership, we’re collaborating on cutting-edge solutions that shape the future of connected cars,” Bakkenes said.
