Volkswagen Wraps Up Design Work on ID.2 EV Priced At $27K

As Volkswagen revealed its ID.2all concept last year, it has been reported that the company has completed the design work on its upcoming affordable electric vehicle (EV), the ID.2.

With the ID.2 completed, the EV model is set to position itself beneath the ID.3 in Volkswagen’s EV lineup with a targeted price point below 25,000 euros ($27,000). Notably, it also draws inspiration from iconic VW models like the Golf and Beetle but with a modern twist for the electric era.

According to AutoCar, Volkswagen’s design chief Andreas Mindt told them that the production version of the ID.2 surpasses expectations, with enhancements made to the concept to ensure a captivating appearance noting that the product version is “even better”, than the concept version. Mindt also expressed his optimism for Volkswagen’s future, emphasizing the importance of the ID.2 in the company’s strategic direction.

In terms of the ID.2 appearance, it illustrates itself to be shorter than the Polo with a longer wheelbase and a spacious interior similar to the Golf model while being affordable similar to the Polo model. Notably, As for specs, it is based on a modified, front-wheel drive version of the MEB platform. It is also expected to have 38 kWh and 56 kWh battery pack options with a projected maximum estimated range of 280 miles on a full charge.

With Volkswagen launching several EV models including the ID.7 despite delays, the company’s ID.2 model will be made to stand out as a promising addition to its electric portfolio with affordability in mind. Volkswagen’s production version of the ID.2 is scheduled to be revealed by the end of 2024.
