The 2026 Toyota C-HR is making a comeback in the United States, this time as a 338-hp all-wheel-drive electric crossover with a 290-mile range. The Toyota CH-R effectively revives a nameplate that was discontinued after its 2022 model year.

The new subcompact EV shares a platform with the 2026 Toyota bZ EV, but it will be offered with a single battery option. Toyota also expects the newly announced vehicle to go on sale sometime in 2026.

Why the 2026 C-HR Revival Matters

The original Toyota C-HR was a front-wheel-drive-only crossover with 144 hp and a starting price over $25,000. It was known for its unique, fun design, but its low power proved lacking among customers in the United States. For its all-electric 2026 revival, the CH-R is coming back stronger with a 338-hp AWD powertrain, 290-mile range, and a 0-60 mph time of about 5 seconds.

Similar to its predecessor, the CH-R EV also features compact crossover proportions, according to Toyota in a press release. This means it has 25 cubic feet of cargo space, which should be enough for grocery store trips and the occasional drive to the beach. Its native NACS charging compatibility also allows it to access Tesla’s vast Supercharger Network, which should make long trips a breeze.

New Outside and Inside

The 2026 C-HR features a compact coupe silhouette and Toyota’s signature hammerhead front end. Inside, the CH-R EV promises to be more welcoming than its predecessor, with generous headroom, ample cabin space, a panoramic roof, 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and dual wireless charging pads on the center console. It also has heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, parking sensors, and a power liftgate. It even features customizable ambient lighting, which allows drivers to set the right mood for their trips.

Built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, the CH-R is smaller than the 2026 bZ EV, with a 177.7-inch length, 63.8-inch height, and 108.3-inch wheelbase. This makes the CH-R a competitor to vehicles like the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV. Toyota has not announced the price of the CH-R EV, but Car & Driver estimates that the vehicle could start at about $35,000 for its base SE trim, and about $38,000 for its top-tier XSE trim.
