Tesla has quietly suspended new orders for its flagship Model S and Model X in Sweden and across the European Union, according to local reports. While both vehicles can still be purchased from existing inventory, customers are no longer able to configure or place new factory orders for the two flagship vehicles.

Existing inventory is still available, but demand seems weak

Tesla confirmed that the halt applies to new orders only, as inventory units can still be purchased. In Sweden, around seven Model S and 12 Model X units are currently available, each offered at steep discounts. A Model S is now listed at SEK 1,236,000 (down SEK 155,000), while the Model X sits at SEK 1,315,000 (discounted SEK 178,000).

The move appears to be driven by lagging demand for Tesla’s luxury EVs in Europe, despite their historic role in launching the region’s EV market more than a decade ago. According to CarUp, it is no exaggeration to state that the electric vehicle revolution in Sweden would not have happened if it were not for the Tesla Model S.

U.S. updates bring new features but higher prices

While weak orders could be a reason for the Model S and Model X’s pause in new orders in Sweden and Europe, Tesla has recently updated the two flagship vehicles for the U.S. market. New additions include a Frost Blue paint option, improved wheel aerodynamics, a bumper-mounted camera, dynamic ambient lighting, and adaptive headlights. Suspension upgrades have also improved ride quality, while the Model S Plaid gets refreshed styling and the standard Model S now offers up to 410 miles of range.

These updates come with a $5,000 price hike across the lineup. The Model S now starts at $84,990 in the U.S., while the Model X starts at $89,990. Tesla, at least for now, has not provided any timeline for when custom orders for the freshly revamped vehicles might resume in Europe.
