Subaru Uncharted EV Debuts as Compact, Affordable Twin to Toyota C-HR

Subaru has revealed its newest all-electric SUV, the 2026 Uncharted EV, a compact crossover that’s a twin of the Toyota C-HR. Marking a major shift for the brand, the Uncharted EV will offer a front-wheel-drive variant, Subaru’s first in decades, alongside a more powerful all-wheel-drive option. 

U.S. sales are scheduled to begin in early 2026, with pricing expected closer to launch.

Compact design with two powertrains and up to 300 miles of range

Sized similarly to the Crosstrek, the Uncharted EV rides on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform and shares much of its design with the C-HR. It will launch in two configurations: a 221-hp FWD Premium trim offering up to 300 miles of range, and a 338-hp AWD dual-motor setup available on Sport and GT trims, which deliver an estimated 290 miles, according to Car and Driver. 

The AWD variant accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds and includes Subaru’s X-Mode for improved off-road handling. Both setups use a 75-kWh battery and support charging speeds up to 150 kW via a Tesla-compatible NACS port. This should translate to a 10–80% recharge in about 30 minutes.

New tech and comfort features in Subaru’s smallest EV

Inside, the Uncharted EV features a 14.0-inch center screen, dual wireless phone chargers, and a five-seat layout. Subaru adds its own touches, including orange cabin accents, optional water-repellent seat upholstery, and a squared steering wheel. 

Standard features include heated seats, a powered tailgate, and ambient lighting, while higher trims bring 20-inch wheels, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Car and Driver expects the Uncharted EV’s pricing to start in the low $30,000s for the FWD version, positioning it competitively against the Hyundai Kona Electric and Kia Niro EV. Expectations are high that the Uncharted EV’s AWD variants will be priced in the upper-$30,000 to low-$40,000 range.
