Smart has officially launched the all-new #5 SUV in the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market. Priced between RMB 239,900 to RMB 368,000 (around $33,700 to $51,700), the Smart #5 offers buyers a range of options to suit their needs and preferences.
According to Smart, the #5 is positioned as Smart’s largest model to date, following the brand’s “Sensual and Sharp” design philosophy. Buyers can choose from eight exterior color options and six interior color schemes to personalize their SUV.
One of the standout features of the Smart #5 is its diverse powertrain options. Buyers can opt for rear-wheel-drive (RWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, with the RWD variants offering two output levels – 250 kW (335 hp) / 373 Nm and 267 kW (358 hp) / 373 Nm.
The RWD models are equipped with either a 76 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack or a 100 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 570 km (around 354 miles) and 740 km (around 500 miles), respectively. These RWD variants can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 6.5 seconds and can be recharged from 30% to 80% in under 15 minutes.
For those seeking more performance, the AWD variant of the Smart #5 contains a combined maximum power output of 432 kW (579 hp). The front asynchronous motor delivers 165 kW (221 hp) / 270 Nm, while the rear motor produces 310 kW (416 hp) / 440 Nm. This configuration allows the AWD #5 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The AWD model is equipped with a 100 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, offering a CLTC range of 580 km (around 360 miles).
The Smart #5’s interior includes a 25.6-inch AR-HUD, a 10.3-inch LCD instrument panel, and a dual 13-inch AMOLED 2.5K central control screen paired with a co-pilot entertainment screen. These displays are powered by an AMD V2000 chip, ensuring a seamless and responsive user experience.
In terms of safety, the Smart #5 is equipped with the brand’s Pilot Assist 3.0 intelligent driving assistance system, which utilizes dual Nvidia Drive Orin X autonomous driving chips to enable a wide range of advanced features, such as traffic jam assist, blind spot monitoring, forward/rear collision mitigation, lane change assist, and parking assist.
Moreover, the Smart #5’s safety credentials are further bolstered by eight airbags, including front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as an optional zero-gravity seat cushion airbag.
The Smart #5’s Jungle Realm Limited Edition AWD variant takes the SUV’s capabilities a step further, offering an outdoor adventure package. This package includes an X-shaped painted roof platform, luggage racks, a side-mounted storage container, a side ladder, and side steps. Additionally, the Jungle Realm Limited Edition features a hidden trailer connector with a towing capacity of 1.6 tons.
With its diverse powertrain options, advanced technology, and focus on safety and versatility, the Smart #5 is set to carve out a unique niche in the growing Chinese electric SUV market.
As Smart’s largest model to date, the #5 represents the brand’s continued commitment to providing eco-friendly and technologically advanced electric mobility solutions to discerning buyers.
