Concept #2 previews next-gen city EV as smart reinvents its roots

The smart Concept #2 made its global debut as a preview of the upcoming production smart #2, set for launch at the Paris Motor Show 2026.

Designed by the Mercedes-Benz design team, the Concept #2 reimagines the brand’s iconic two-seater city car with a “Function becomes Fashion” philosophy, according to a press release. At just 2.79 meters long, it features a tight 6.95-meter turning radius and maximized interior space through its wheels-at-the-corners layout.

The concept targets nearly 300 km of WLTP range and supports fast charging from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes, alongside Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability. Built on smart’s new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA), it represents a shift toward more expressive, lifestyle-focused urban mobility.

Alongside the concept, the smart #6 EHD made its world premiere as the brand’s first premium fastback sedan. The model blends EV and hybrid capabilities through its Electric Hybrid Drive system, delivering up to 1,810 km of total range (CLTC) and fuel consumption as low as 3.9L/100 km.

The #6 EHD features a spacious interior with dual 13-inch OLED displays, a 525-liter trunk, and up to 86% space efficiency. Performance enhancements include a four-stage active rear spoiler and ZF-tuned steering, while safety is reinforced by a high-strength structural design.

Backed by its joint venture roots with Geely and Mercedes-Benz, smart is rapidly expanding globally, now operating in 40 markets. With its growing lineup, including the #1, #3, and #5, the brand is positioning itself as a design-led premium EV player with broader segment coverage.
