While the Gravity impressed with exhilarating driving dynamics and long range, the Rivian’s superior interior design, comfort, and practicality made it the winner.

Edmunds has released its latest head-to-head test between two high-profile electric luxury SUVs: the 2025 Lucid Gravity and the 2025 Rivian R1S. Both earned strong overall scores of 7.8/10, but the publication ultimately named the R1S as the more well-rounded choice.
While the Gravity impressed with exhilarating driving dynamics and long range, the Rivian’s superior interior design, comfort, and practicality made it the winner.
The Lucid Gravity stood out for its performance, with reviewers calling it one of the best-driving SUVs on the market. Its ride quality, handling balance, and tested 400-mile range positioned it above the R1S in terms of efficiency and driving excitement.
However, Edmunds noted several shortcomings in execution. Interior quality did not match the Gravity’s six-figure price tag, with flimsy touch controls, gaps in the cargo area, and low-grade trim materials leaving room for improvement.
“We tested a two-row version of the Gravity and noticed a strange gap between the cargo load floor and the back seats. The touch controls on the steering wheel are flimsy and unlabeled. There are way too many low-rent materials in a vehicle that costs more than $100,000,” Edmunds wrote.

The Rivian R1S Tri Max may not match the Lucid’s road manners, but it ultimately outshined its rival where it mattered most. Edmunds highlighted the R1S for its more functional, better-built cabin, greater passenger comfort, and thoughtful features like electronically dimmable glass roof panels.
Although its tested 361-mile range fell short of Lucid’s performance, the R1S still delivered competitive capability at a lower cost. The publication concluded that while the Lucid Gravity appeals to the heart, the Rivian R1S is the smarter choice for daily use, and the SUV they would recommend today.
“The R1S is the SUV that takes the cake. And when we polled the staff, it’s the EV everyone said they’d rather drive daily. The Rivian wins because it’s a better overall value and has a more functional, more complete cabin. There are no caveats to the Rivian’s win: It’s the SUV we can most easily recommend right now,” Edmunds stated.
