Stellantis has taken a bold step forward in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its new STLA Frame platform, designed to address the critical challenges facing electric trucks and SUVs.

According to Stellantis, the platform, set to debut with the Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger, promises to deliver unprecedented range, performance, and flexibility for North American consumers.

The STLA Frame platform represents a multi-energy approach that can accommodate battery electric (BEV), range-extended electric (REEV), hybrid, and potentially hydrogen powertrains. For the initial launch, Stellantis will offer two key models: the fully electric Ram 1500 REV and the innovative Ramcharger range-extended EV.

The Ram 1500 REV offers exceptional specifications, making it a powerful electric vehicle. It comes with two battery options: a standard range 159-kWh battery providing over 350 miles of range, and a larger 229-kWh battery offering an impressive 500+ miles of range.

Moreover, the EV is equipped with dual electric drive modules that deliver a robust 663 horsepower, along with a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. It also boasts rapid acceleration, going from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds.

Advanced Platform Design

The Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger are built on the innovative STLA Frame platform, which includes several advanced features. The platform can support vehicles ranging from 216 to 234 inches in length, offers up to 10.3 inches of ground clearance, and has water fording capabilities up to 24 inches.

Additionally, the platform supports an 800V charging configuration, enabling the vehicle to add 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. It also includes bidirectional charging capabilities, further enhancing its functionality.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares emphasized the platform’s importance, stating it offers “no compromise” solutions for buyers hesitant about electric vehicles. The company is investing over €50 billion (around $52,9 billion) in electrification, targeting 100% EV sales in Europe and 50% in North America by 2030.

Market Timing

The Ram 1500 REV is expected to launch in the first half of 2025, slightly later than initially planned. Following the truck, Stellantis plans to introduce the REEV technology in the full-size Wagoneer SUV, with a fully electric version potentially coming in the subsequent years.

As the EV market continues to evolve, Stellantis’s STLA Frame platform appears set to address many of the currentchallenges facing electric trucks, offering a compelling option for buyers seeking both performance and practicality.
