CEO Michael Lohscheller said the company is not concerned about overlap with sibling brand Volvo as it prepares a broader lineup that includes new crossovers and estate models.

Polestar said it remains committed to its premium positioning even as the brand expands into more mainstream vehicle segments to increase global sales.
CEO Michael Lohscheller said the company is not concerned about overlap with sibling brand Volvo as it prepares a broader lineup that includes new crossovers and estate models.
Polestar is targeting annual sales of 100,000 vehicles, up from 60,000 in 2025, as part of a broader strategy to recover from losses and move toward long-term profitability.
The company plans to expand its lineup with an estate version of the Polestar 4 crossover and a compact SUV called the Polestar 7, which will share connections with a Volvo counterpart, according to Autocar UK.
Despite entering more mainstream segments, Lohscheller said the company will maintain a clear separation from Volvo through unique design and driving characteristics.
“We have four cars in the next three years,” Lohscheller said. “Polestar 5, you can’t find a more unique car than that one.”
He added that the upcoming estate version of the Polestar 4 and future Polestar 7 SUV will also stand apart from related vehicles.
“We don’t want to do cars for everybody; we want to do unique cars,” he said.

Lohscheller said Polestar’s identity continues to center on Swedish design and chassis tuning, even when using shared Geely Group platforms.
“We put the Polestar DNA in the car, starting with design,” he said. “That’s the reason we stay in Sweden.”
The automaker plans to reveal the Polestar 4 estate in the coming months following the launch of the new Polestar 5 GT flagship.
Polestar is also preparing the next-generation Polestar 2 sedan, which is expected to arrive in the first half of next year. The current Polestar 2 has surpassed 200,000 global sales since launching in 2020.
Lohscheller described the next-generation model as “an evolution” rather than “a revolution,” saying the company intends to keep the strengths of the existing car while adding updated technology.
The upcoming sedan is expected to continue targeting rivals such as the Tesla Model 3 in the premium EV segment.
