Nissan’s Yokohama factory plant is a work in progress, where the walls are yet to be done and the equipment is being installed as we speak. As the starting production volume will not be as quick compared to other already running plants, Nissan does plan to have its EVs equipped with these batteries by the fiscal year 2028 under the company’s Nissan Ambition 2030 plan. Moreover, with Nissan’s The Arc business plan underway with 16 EVs yet to be introduced, these batteries will be working in those EVs once they are released.

Furthermore, Nissan’s commitment to solid-state batteries is to be “game-changers for EVs” as the company stated that the potential for energy density is around twice as much as normal lithium-ion batteries. As a result, producing better results of charging time and lower costs due to inexpensive materials.

With technological advancements in EVs in Nissan’s mind, its rivals such as Toyota and Honda are also investing heavily in EVs and its technology including batteries. As Nissan plans to electrify its global models by 40% in fiscal year 2026 and 60% by 2030, the key to this business plan will depend on the running of this Yokohama plant as a start.
