Lucid Motors has issued a second recall for the Lucid Gravity in just four months, affecting thousands of vehicles due to a supplier-related manufacturing issue. The recall centers on seatbelt anchor welds that fail to meet federal safety standards, prompting repairs or replacements for impacted owners.

Supplier change triggers widespread safety recall

Lucid confirmed that the issue stems from a manufacturing change made by seat supplier Camaco without approval. The modification resulted in improperly positioned and insufficient welds on the second-row seatbelt anchor brackets.

The defect was identified during internal testing and affects 4,476 Gravity units built between December 2024 and February 2026, with an estimated 97% of those vehicles impacted. The faulty welds do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and could increase injury risk in the event of a crash, Carscoops.

This marks a significant escalation compared to Lucid’s previous Gravity recall in December, which affected just 66 vehicles and was tied to seat covers interfering with airbag deployment.

Repairs planned as Lucid moves to contain issue

Lucid has outlined a corrective plan, with owner notifications set to begin on May 22. Dealers will inspect affected vehicles and apply fixes depending on severity.

If non-compliant welds are identified, repairs may include reinforcing brackets with adhesive or, in more severe cases, full seat replacements at no cost to customers. The company had previously issued a temporary stop-sale earlier this year while evaluating whether the seatbelt systems met required load standards.

The recall comes at a critical time for Lucid as it ramps production and deliveries of the Gravity, its flagship SUV aimed at competing in the premium EV segment. Ensuring supplier compliance and product reliability will be key as the company works to maintain momentum in a competitive market.
