Industry data showed just nine Lucid Gravity SUVs were registered in the U.S. between January and June 2025, sparking questions about demand for the luxury electric SUV. Lucid, however, has argued that the figure doesn’t tell the whole story.

The automaker claims it has already sold several hundred units of the Gravity, pointing to a lag between sales and official registrations amid the vehicle’s production ramp.

Lag Between Sales and Registrations

According to S&P Global Mobility, the first half of 2025 saw 4,780 registrations for Lucid’s Air sedan, a 52% year-on-year increase. At the same time, S&P Global Mobility’s data also showed just nine registrations for the Gravity SUV. That’s an insanely low number, especially considering the positive reviews that Gravity has been getting from reviews over the past months.

Lucid has disputed the figure, telling Automotive News that delays between customer deliveries and DMV registrations would explain the discrepancy. Initial production from December 2024 through Q1 2025 was largely reserved for dealer demos and media test vehicles. Overall, Lucid told the publication that it has already sold “multiple hundreds” of the luxury SUV.

Production Ramp and Future Plans

Lucid began delivering customer Gravities in spring 2025, though interim CEO Marc Winterhoff admitted the production ramp was slower than anticipated, according to CarScoops. The SUV is currently offered only in GT trim, producing 828 hp with a 450-mile EPA range and priced from $96,550.

More trims are expected in 2026, which Lucid believes will significantly increase volume and could push Gravity sales past the Air sedan’s tally. The Lucid Gravity is competing in the luxury SUV segment, however, which would likely result in low sales numbers for the vehicle even in coming quarters.
