Lucid Closes $300M Uber Investment to Build Robotaxi Fleet

Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) has finalized a $300 million investment deal with Uber Technologies, marking the official close of a funding round first revealed in July.

The cash injection will support the development of a next-generation autonomous robotaxi program built on Lucid’s EV platform and deployed exclusively on Uber’s ride-hailing network.

Robotaxi production and launch plans

The robotaxi will be manufactured at Lucid’s Arizona facility, using the company’s Gravity vehicle architecture alongside the Nuro Driver Level 4 autonomy system. A first launch is slated for late 2026 in a major U.S. city, with plans to expand across Uber’s network.

Lucid’s long-range platform and redundant electrical systems are seen as key enablers for scalable deployment. Uber expects to roll out 20,000 or more Lucid-built robotaxis over six years as part of the initiative.

Strategic partnership and growth outlook

The deal not only deepens Uber’s reliance on Lucid’s technology but also validates the automaker’s EV platform, according to interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, according to a press release.

“Lucid’s innovations and technologies are second to none, and Uber’s investment is just the latest example of a third-party validating our highly advanced technical platform.

“We look forward to further strengthening our close working partnership with Uber in the years to come, and continuing to explore new markets, opportunities and partners that can best leverage Lucid’s leading technology,” the interim CEO said.
