Love’s Travel Stops is making major strides in expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the United States (U.S.), leading the way in becoming a provider of EV charging stations at its retail locations.

According to Love’s Travel Stops, the company has recently begun construction on next-generation EV charging stations at its locations in Ripley and Waterloo, New York, marking a major step in its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Shane Wharton, President of Love’s Travel Stops, expressed the company’s EV plans stating, “Love’s is honored to play a critical role in actively shaping and building out the fast-charging electric vehicle network across the nation.”

Key highlights of Love’s EV charging expansion include:

  • Extensive Network: Love’s currently offers over 100 chargers at 28 stores across 11 states, with plans for significant growth.
  • Advanced Technology: The new stations in New York will feature two dual-port Level 3 DC fast chargers, providing a total of four charging spots with a high-power output of 160KW.
  • Strategic Locations: Charging stations are conveniently placed near highways, ensuring easy access for travelers.
  • Comprehensive Amenities: While charging, customers can enjoy various onsite services, including restaurants, Wi-Fi, clean restrooms, and dog parks.
  • 24/7 Support: All locations are staffed around the clock, providing assistance and ensuring a safe charging environment.

Love’s expansion is largely fueled by its success in securing state and federal grants under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program. This program, which aims to create a national network of 500,000 EV chargers, has positioned Love’s as one of the top recipients of NEVI grant funds, particularly in the travel station sector.

Moreover, the company plans to break ground on NEVI-funded charging stations in Pennsylvania and Kentucky this year, with projects in numerous other states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, and Georgia, scheduled to begin in 2025.

Furthermore, Love’s is also future-proofing its new travel stops by allocating space for EV chargers, allowing for quick installation in partnership with local utility companies as demand grows.

Notably, this expansion aligns with the NEVI program’s requirements, which mandate EV charging stations every 50 miles along Alternative Fuel Corridors, with each station capable of charging at least four EVs simultaneously at 150 kW.

As Love’s Travel Stops shift towards making its retail locations more EV accessible, it is set to position itself as a leader in providing accessible, convenient, and reliable charging options for the growing number of EV owners across the nation.
