Kia has announced a major milestone for its Kia Charge service, which now offers access to more than 800,000 charging points across 28 European countries, marking a substantial increase in its electric vehicle (EV) charging network’s size.

Rapid Growth and Increased Accessibility

According to Kia, the expansion of Kia Charge represents a 10% increase from Q2 2024 and an exceptional 39% growth compared to the same period in 2023. As a result, this rapid expansion underlines Kia’s dedication to supporting the growing number of EVs on European roads.

Martin Enthofer, Director of Customer Experience Strategy and Solutions at Kia Europe, emphasized the importance of this growth stating, “As more electric vehicles take to the road, it’s important to match this uptake with an increasing number of charging points, to help our customers easily charge their vehicles. Kia continues to set the benchmark for making electric driving more accessible to a wider range of audience, with Kia Charge helping to simplify and enhance every journey.”

Comprehensive Charging Solutions

Kia Charge offers a one-stop solution for all charging needs, whether at home, work, or on the road. The service includes route planning, authentication, account management, and payment processing.

In addition, Kia Charge users have access to over 4,200 ultra-fast charging stations through the IONITY network. Kia is supporting IONITY’s ambitious plan to expand to more than 17,000 high-power charging stations along European highways by 2030.

User Adoption and Satisfaction

The service has seen strong adoption among Kia EV owners, with a 42% take-rate so far in 2024. Moreover, Kia Charge possesses an overall satisfaction rate of around 75%. To date, more than 2.5 million charging sessions have been completed using either the Kia Charge card or the Kia Charge app.

Advanced Features

Kia has introduced several features to enhance the user experience:

  • Kia EV Route Planner: This system automatically detects charging stations along the route and adds them as waypoints, making it easy for drivers to find charging points during their journey.
  • Kia Plug & Charge: This feature allows users to start charging simply by plugging in the cable, without the need fora charging card or app authentication.
  • Kia Charge Business: A solution for business customers that enables centralized charging management for EV fleets.

Kia Charge Availability

Kia Charge has been launched in 19 European countries, including Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, France, the United Kingdom (UK), and others. In countries where Kia Charge hasn’t yet been launched, customers can still use charging points through roaming agreements in Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Italy, and several other nations.

With Kia’s expansion of its charging network, it demonstrates its goal to providing comprehensive solutions for EV owners. By addressing one of the key concerns of potential EV buyers in terms of charging infrastructure and convenience, Kia is elevating its position in the transition to electric mobility.
