Kia America’s EV Sales Soar with Record 127% Year-Over-Year Increase in May 2024

Kia America has witnessed record-breaking sales again with its electric vehicle (EV) sales surpassing 7,000 units in May for the first time. Specifically, Kia’s total EV sales reached 7,197 units in May, a 127% increase year-over-year.

When compared to April’s sales of 5,045, sales have ramped up since then. In total, the company reached 75,156 unit sales in the United States (U.S.) in May 2024, which is up 5.1% year-over-year. Furthermore, Kia’s total volume in regards to EV sales increased to 9.6% in contrast to 4.4% last year, marking a clear improvement as well as a new record according to Kia.

The stand-out performer in Kia’s EV sales was its award-winning EV9, which sold 7,766 units compared to last month’s numbers of 2,187 units sold. Noticeably, Kia’s Niro EV and EV6 also contributed with 7,118 units sold and 8,770 units sold, respectively. The increase in year-over-year change for these models is an increase of 60% and an increase of 28%, respectively.

With Kia’s EV sales reaching new milestones that have placed the company in better positions to thrive in the U.S. EV market, it is also leveraging the federal EV tax credit of $7,500 by localizing production in Georgia. As a result, when Kia’s EVs become eligible for the tax credit, the appeal and change in sales are expected to see another increase that will set it apart from others.
