Driven By A 16% increase, Kia’s Record-Breaking October Saw EV Sales Up 70% And SUVs Dominating The Lineup

Kia America has shattered its previous October sales records, driven by remarkable growth in its electric vehicle (EV) lineup and strong SUV performance.
According to Kia America, the company reported sales of 68,908 units last month, marking a substantial 16% increase over October 2023’s previous record. In detail, Kia America’s electrified portfolio showed exceptional performance across all categories with all-EV sales surging 70% year-over-year and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales increasing 65%.
The EV6, Kia’s first dedicated electric model, achieved a new October sales milestone with 1,941 units sold, bringing its year-to-date total to over 17,700 vehicles. Perhaps more notable, the larger EV9 three-row electric SUV matched the EV6’s monthly sales figures despite its higher price point, accumulating 17,911 total sales through October.
SUV sales reached record heights for October, accounting for 73% of total sales. Multiple models posted significant gains compared to last year, where three Kia nameplates set new October records including the EV6.
“A number of Kia’s electrified models and SUVs realized double-digit sales increases, propelling Kia to our best October sales performance in company history,” stateed Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations at Kia America.
The future looks promising for Kia’s electric lineup. The EV9, now being manufactured at the company’s West Point, GA plant, is expected to qualify for the full $7,500 federal tax credit next year. In the meantime, Kia is matching this incentive through dealer offers. The 2025 EV9 will start at $54,900 (excluding destination fee), representing only a modest $700 increase over the 2024 model.
Additionally, the anticipated EV9 GT, promising “enormous power,” is set to debut next year, recently teasing enthusiasts with a preview featuring an active spoiler.
Kia America’s October success underscores its rapidly growing influence in the EV and SUV segments. With record sales, ambitious EV growth, and competitive incentives, Kia continues to carve out a strong position in the United States (U.S.) EV market.
