According to Hyundai, the INSTER EV prices start at £23,495 (around $31,000) in the UK market. The INSTER EV, known as the Casper Electric in Korea, boasts a segment-leading projected range of up to 229 miles on a single charge for the Long-Range model.

Moreover, this exceptional range is achieved through optimized efficiency, with an estimated energy consumption of up to 4.2 miles per kWh. Hyundai claims this performance “redefines what is possible from a small urban EV.”

The INSTER EV comes with two battery options to cater to different needs and budgets. The base model features a 42 kWh battery producing 97 PS (horsepower), while the upgraded version offers a 49 kWh battery delivering 115 PS and up to 220 miles of range. All models are equipped with an 11kW on-board charger as standard, along with a battery heating system and high-efficiency heat pump to optimize both range and charging times.

Design and Dimensions

Despite its small size, Hyundai has designed the INSTER EV to maximize interior space. The vehicle measures 3,825 mm in length, 1,610 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. This makes it even more compact than competitors like the Kia EV3, Volkswagen ID.3, and Volvo EX30.

The exterior design features Hyundai’s signature pixelated front bumper, similar to its IONIQ models, along withdistinctive LED daytime running lights and pixel-graphic turn signals.

The higher-end INSTER 02, priced from £26,745, adds 17-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors, LED projection headlamps, heated front seats and steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad, among other upgrades.

Both models come with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Highway Driving Assist. A unique feature of the INSTER EV is its external and internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external devices such as laptops, electric bicycles, and camping equipment without additional equipment.

Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, expressed optimism about the INSTER EV’s reception, stating, “Early feedback suggests that the combination of design, equipment, and price point is already generating excitement in the showrooms.”

Hyundai is currently conducting an INSTER Roadshow across 86 UK retailers from October to December, giving potential customers a chance to see the vehicle in person before its official arrival. Furthermore, attractive financing options are available, with PCP offers starting from £249 per month, including a £500 FDA and 4.9% APR.

While the INSTER EV is not planned for launch in the United States (U.S.) market, it represents Hyundai’s goal of expanding its EV lineup in Europe and offering affordable EV options to a broader range of buyers.
