Hyundai is charging up excitement in the EV industry as it prepares to take on the 102nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on June 23. The decision for Hyundai to enter the IONIQ 5 N into the PPIHC could be determined and influenced by the recent accomplishment of its IONIQ 5 N winning the 2024 World Performance Car. Furthermore, the IONIQ 5 N possesses a powerful 641 hp electric powertrain and is taking on the challenge on a 12.42-mile route with its 156 turns and daunting 4,725-foot elevation gain.

Till Wartenberg, head of N Brand and Motorsport at Hyundai, confidently expressed the IONIQ 5 N participation in the PPIHC, stating, “We are returning to the mountain stronger than we have left it, with a class-leading electric SUV in the form of IONIQ 5 N.”

Moreover, the confidence is well justified as Hyundai has 11-time PPIHC winner Paul Dallenbach behind the wheel of the IONIQ 5 N models along with PPIHC rookie and newest team member Ron Zaras. In addition, Hyundai will reveal a second modified version of the IONIQ 5 N before the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring on May 30. With these modified IONIQ 5 N models, they will be helmed by 4-time overall winner and King of the Mountain title holder Robin Schute and Dani Sordo, a Spanish World Rally Championship driver.

Even though the PPIHC brings fierce competition to Hyundai, the company’s commitment to safety remains paramount. The standard IONIQ 5 N went through minimal modifications for the race, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. However, installations for extra protection were added such as a Recaro Pro Racer SPA Hans seat, Sabelt six-point HANS compatible seat belts, and a roll cage with a fire suppression system.

As Hyundai takes on the challenge of Pikes Peak, we can expect a splendor of EV performance unlike any we have seen before. With the PPIHC set to take on the best entrants, the IONIQ 5 N is geared up to shatter records and carve its name into the annals of competitive automotive history.
