SES AI Will Bring Its Lithium Metal Batteries Available As Early As 2026

SES AI has reached a new milestone in a new agreement with its partnership regarding its existing joint development agreement (JDA) with Hyundai and Kia by moving into its next phase of developing B samples to foster innovation for the electric vehicle (EV) market.

The signed agreement represents the venture for innovation in battery technology, SES AI will construct a dedicated B-sample cell development, assembly, and testing facility in Ui-Wang, South Korea. SES AI will also build and operate one of the largest capacity Li-Metal lines in the world in this new facility. The facility will start later in the year.
Qichao Hu, founder and Chief Executive Officer of SES AI, expressed “At SES AI, we are committed to delivering on our promise to develop a next-generation EV battery that leverages AI to achieve the best combination of energy density, manufacturability, and a nearly 100 percent safety guarantee.”
The new agreement between SES AI, Hyundai Motor, and Kia began in 2021, which focused on developing Li-Metal batteries for EVs and Urban Air Mobility (UAM). Now, SES AI will also be converting another A-sample line to produce Urban Air Mobility (UAM) battery cells. As progress is being made, SES AI’s role in advancing both Hyundai and Kia’s aim in furthering electric mobility is underscored through this next phase.

With EV battery technology being innovated to accommodate the growing demand for high-tech EVs, the efforts to shape and answer these demands are being paved. The plans to commercialize the battery technology will result as early as 2026.
