German electric vehicle (EV) interoperability specialist Hubject has announced a strategic partnership with India’s largest manufacturer of EV chargers, Exicom. This partnership aims to improve the charging experience for EV drivers across India by utilizing Hubject’s innovative interoperability technology.

The partnership arrives at a vital time for India’s EV market, which has seen explosive growth in recent years. Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject, noted, “Last year sales nearly doubled and this year they are expected to rise by 66%.” This rapid expansion has highlighted the need for improved charging infrastructure and user experience.

Hubject’s Interchange Platform

Central to the partnership is the implementation of Hubject’s ‘intercharge’ platform, which will simplify the process of finding and accessing charging points for EV owners. The collaboration will also focus on developing Hubject’s Plug&Charge technology in India, creating a regional hub that clings to ISO15118 standards and enables fully automated charging capabilities.

Hubject’s technology allows EV owners to select between different charging point operators (CPOs) seamlessly. This interoperability is expected to make EV charging as straightforward as refueling a gas vehicle.

The partnership also has implications for future vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology adoption in India. Hubject’s Plug&Charge solutions support V2G capabilities, which could play a crucial role in grid balancing as EV adoption increases.

India’s Growing EV Market

Anant Nahata, CEO of Exicom, expressed the scope of the collaboration stating, “Addressing the challenges of reliability and seamless EV charging experience in the Indian market is crucial. Our partnership with Hubject aims to provide a frictionless charging experience for EV users. The establishment of a central interoperability hub will further streamline payment settlements and reduce dependence on multiple wallets, ensuring a smoother experience for EV users nationwide.”

As India’s EV market continues to accelerate its EV adoption, the need to improve charging infrastructure and user experience resulting from this collaboration will contribute to it.
