Honda is accelerating its strategy in establishing its Ohio-based electric vehicle (EV) Hub as its North American EV production network. The EV Hub is part of the company’s initiative towards its transition to zero-emission mobility by having all their Honda models be completely electric by 2040.

Honda’s Ohio EV Hub is scheduled to open in late 2025 and it will partly serve as a model for future EV manufacturing to the EV industry. The progress at the EV Hub will contain the latest and advanced facilities for EV production including the assembly of the Intelligent Power Unit (IPU), which is a component that accommodates the EV battery module and necessary hardware and software.

Bob Nelson, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., states, “The establishment of our EV Hub is not simply an investment in retooling and equipment; we are investing in the Honda associates who will be taking on new responsibilities to lead us into the electrified future.”

Furthermore, Honda is planning to employ 300 associates for the Ohio EV Hub. As for associates already working for Honda, they will be trained to understand the necessary knowledge of EV production and IPU assembly.

Moreover, three of Honda’s Ohio-based manufacturing plants will go through thorough changes to support its EV manufacturing plans. These manufacturing plants are its Marysville Auto Plant (MAP), East Liberty Auto Plant (ELP), and Anna Engine Plant (AEP).

In addition, Honda’s joint venture with L-H Battery Company, Inc. will strengthen the company’s battery manufacturing, highlighting its focus on securing a strong EV supply chain. The completion of this process is scheduled for the end of the year. Notably, with Honda’s battery components being built on United States (U.S.) soil, the company has completed two requirements for its EV models to be eligible for the federal EV tax credit.

As a result of these massive changes, Honda’s Ohio EV Hub will act as a beacon of EV manufacturing and collaboration across Honda’s North American production network.
