GM Recalls Silverado EV and Sierra EV Models Over Battery Fire Risk

General Motors is recalling certain 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV pickup trucks because of a manufacturing defect inside the high-voltage battery pack that could increase the risk of a fire.

The campaign also includes select 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL models that use the same battery design.

Battery module may not have been properly secured

GM said an internal component within the high-voltage battery module may not have been fully secured during assembly.

If the component shifts inside the battery pack, it could damage internal battery components and increase the risk of a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven, according to GM Authority.

Because the issue occurs within the sealed battery assembly, owners are unlikely to detect the defect before damage develops.

According to GM’s dealer bulletin, the recall affects four 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EVs and one 2026 GMC Sierra EV.

Dealers will replace the battery pack

GM has instructed dealers to replace the complete high-voltage battery pack in affected vehicles at no cost to owners.

The automaker has also ordered dealers to stop selling, leasing, demonstrating, or transferring affected inventory until the repair has been completed. Battery replacements must be performed by technicians who have completed GM’s required EV service training.

Owners who have already taken delivery of an affected vehicle should wait for an official recall notice before contacting their Chevrolet or GMC dealer to arrange the repair.

The recall is identified as GM Safety Recall N262562600.
