GM Energy’s PowerBank Assists EV Owners With Better Control Over Home Energy Use, Solar Integration, And Backup Power Options Across All 50 States

General Motors (GM)’ energy subsidiary, GM Energy has expanded its portfolio with the launch of the PowerBank and a nationwide energy solution, giving electric vehicle (EV) owners greater control over their energy use and costs.

According to GM Energy, the company has introduced the PowerBank, a stationary energy storage solution aimed at transforming home energy management for EV owners. This innovative system is designed to store and transfer energy, offering greater flexibility and control over electricity use.
The PowerBank comes in two capacity variants: 10.6 kWh and 17.7 kWh, catering to different energy needs. One of its standout features is its ability to provide backup power during outages, ensuring households remain powered even in emergencies. Additionally, the PowerBank can be used to offset high electricity rates by drawing energy during off-peak hours, making it an economical solution for homeowners.
The system is also compatible with solar power setups, allowing users to store excess energy generated by their solar panels. Its modular design enables users to expand capacity over time, providing a scalable solution for evolving energy demands. GM Energy’s PowerBank marks a significant step toward efficient, sustainable home energy management.
Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, emphasized the product’s flexibility stating, “The flexibility of our energy management tools, combined with one of the market’s largest lineups of vehicle-to-home-capable EVs, gives our customers more control over their energy use, helping to mitigate the impact of power outages, integrating renewable energy options, and unlocking additional values.”
The PowerBank is a key component of GM Energy’s comprehensive home energy management ecosystem, designed to give homeowners greater control over their energy use. This ecosystem includes the GM Energy Home System bundle, which not only features the PowerBank but also includes the GM Energy PowerShift charger for efficient EV charging and the GM Energy Vehicle-to-Home Enablement kit, which allows users to leverage their EV’s battery as a backup power source during outages.
In addition, GM Energy has focused on solar integration by partnering with Qmerit, offering homeowners installation assessments and quotes to seamlessly incorporate solar power into their energy systems. To further enhance usability, GM Energy’s entire system is accessible through mobile app integration, allowing homeowners to manage their energy use directly from GM’s brand mobile apps. This holistic approach to home energy management ensures that users can optimize their energy consumption, reduce costs, and increase sustainability with ease.
Moreover, GM Energy has expanded access to its energy management products across all 50 states, marking a significant step in its market presence. To support this expansion, the company has launched GM Energy Live, an interactive digital platform where product specialists can provide detailed information and showcase solutions to potential customers.
The launch of the PowerBank and the expansion of GM Energy’s services represent a significant development in the EV and home energy management markets. By combining two 17.7 kWh PowerBank units, consumers can create 35.4 kWh of stationary storage, enough to power the average American home for up to 20 hours.
This level of energy independence and flexibility could be a game-changer for EV owners, potentially reducing their reliance on the grid during peak hours and providing a reliable backup power source during outages.
GM Energy’s focus extends beyond these new products. The company is committed to expanding its energy ecosystem through expanding public charging infrastructure, developing new energy management solutions, and broadening access to EV education and resources.
As the EV market continues to grow, GM Energy’s expanded portfolio positions the company to play a significant role in shaping the future of home energy management and EV integration.
