GM And EVgo Hit 2,000 Fast-Charging Stalls: Boosting EV Infrastructure Across The U.S.

In a significant advancement for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, General Motors (GM) and EVgo have successfully deployed 2,000 public fast-charging stalls across the United States (U.S.).

GM and EVgo Hit Major EV Milestone

The collaborative effort has strategically established charging stations in 45 metropolitan markets spanning 32 states, with a particular focus on creating charging solutions for diverse communities. This initiative is especially crucial for drivers who lack home charging capabilities, such as renters and residents of multi-family housing complexes.

Each location is selected to provide convenience and additional value to EV owners. An example is their 2,000th charging stall in Murrieta, California, situated off Interstate 215. This state-of-the-art station features five 350kW fast chargers capable of simultaneously serving up to 10 vehicles, while offering drivers easy access to nearby retail, dining, and coffee establishments.

Rapid Growth of Charging Infrastructure

The charging network’s growth has been rapid. Just last August, GM and EVgo celebrated their 1,000th public fast-charging stall in Woodbridge, Illinois. In just over a year, they have effectively doubled their charging infrastructure footprint, demonstrating a commitment to accelerating EV adoption.

Furthermore, both companies aim to complete a total of 2,850 DC fast charging stalls nationwide, including 400 public fast-charging stations at flagship destinations. These strategic locations will be concentrated in key metropolitan areas across states like Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas.

“Our collaboration with EVgo underscores our dedication to providing EV drivers with the best possible experience by expanding reliable fast charging infrastructure across the country,” stated Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy. This sentiment is echoed by EVgo President Dennis Kish, who emphasized the importance of bringing public charging to communities in over 30 states.

The initiative represents more than just a business partnership; it’s a critical step in making EVs more practical and accessible for everyday Americans. By creating a robust, strategically located charging network, GM and EVgo are addressing one of the primary concerns potential EV buyers have: range anxiety and charging convenience.
