Ford Tops U.S. News 2026 EV Brand Rankings, Beating Mainstream Rivals

Ford’s electric lineup may not be delivering the sales or profitability the automaker initially projected, but its vehicles continue to earn high marks from industry evaluators.

The company has now secured a major new accolade: U.S. News & World Report has named Ford the Best Electric Vehicle Brand for 2026 in the mainstream category, highlighting the Blue Oval’s growing reputation for strong EV execution.

Award Highlights Ford’s Strength in Mainstream EV Performance

Ford has steadily gathered recognition across its electric portfolio, with the F-150 Lightning already holding titles such as 2023 North American Truck of the Year and a 2025 Kelley Blue Book Best Buy Award, its third consecutive win. U.S. News introduced its new Best Electric Vehicle Brand categories for 2026 to better reflect shifting consumer priorities and the rising volume of EVs.

In these new classifications, Ford topped the mainstream segment, while Lucid took honors on the luxury side, according to Ford Authority. U.S. News said the additions were created to spotlight brands delivering standout performance in the rapidly expanding EV market.

Scoring Method Focused on Safety, Reliability, and Overall Quality

To determine the winners, U.S. News analyzed average overall scores across each automaker’s EV lineup using data from its Best Cars rankings. Those evaluations incorporate multiple factors, including safety ratings, reliability information, interior quality assessments, and broader automotive-press consensus.

Brands that consistently performed well across these metrics rose to the top. According to U.S. News senior automotive correspondent John Vincent, 2026 marks a significant expansion, acknowledging a historic wave of new EVs reshaping consumer expectations and setting new benchmarks for technology and design.

“The 2026 Best Vehicle Brand awards have been expanded to reflect the rapidly evolving automotive landscape, most notably the growing importance of electric vehicles. This expansion acknowledges the historic number of new EVs and premium electric offerings hitting the market, which are rapidly transforming consumer choice and creating new standards of brand excellence,” he said.
