Ford’s upcoming Fathom electric pickup will include a range of Apple Maps-powered navigation features at no additional cost, giving drivers access to connected navigation services that are often offered through paid subscriptions.
The announcement provides another look at the technology package that will debut with Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform.
According to a member of Ford’s UEV development team, the Fathom will offer several built-in Apple Maps features free of charge.
These include turn-by-turn navigation using natural language guidance, real-time traffic and incident information, intuitive destination search with detailed place cards, and intelligent route planning, according to Ford Authority
The features will be integrated directly into the vehicle rather than requiring drivers to connect a smartphone.
The move stands out because many automakers, including Ford on some current models, charge subscription fees for connected navigation and similar digital services.

In addition to Apple Maps navigation, the Fathom will include intelligent EV routing capable of planning trips based on battery status while supporting battery preconditioning before charging stops.
Ford also plans to use road-level mapping information from Apple Maps to support development of the next generation of its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system, with the goal of improving the driving experience from highway entry to exit.
Drivers who prefer to use their smartphones instead of the built-in navigation system will still be able to access Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Fathom is expected to be the first vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle platform, which the automaker is using to introduce a new generation of affordable electric vehicles.
