Ford’s upcoming Fathom electric pickup has made another public appearance, this time at the automaker’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
Although heavy camouflage continues to conceal most of the truck’s design, the latest prototype sighting reveals a prominent sensor in the front grille and Michelin e-Primacy tires. Ford plans to fully unveil the all-electric pickup in early 2027.
Ford technology communications and digital engagement lead for electric vehicles Emily Gabler shared a photo of the Fathom prototype at the company’s Dearborn headquarters. The truck remains heavily disguised, leaving much of its exterior design hidden.
One notable detail is the large sensor mounted in the front grille. It could be associated with the Level 3 advanced driver-assistance technology Ford has said the Fathom will offer, although the supplied information does not confirm the sensor’s specific function, according to Ford Authority.
Ford has described the Fathom as its first vehicle to offer hands-free, eyes-off driving technology. The pickup will ride on the company’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform, which underpins its upcoming all-electric truck.
The prototype also wears Michelin e-Primacy tires measuring 245/50 R20. Beyond these visible details, the extensive camouflage prevents a clear assessment of the Fathom’s final exterior styling.
Ford has positioned the Fathom as a technology-focused electric pickup. In addition to its planned Level 3 driving assistance, the truck is expected to feature deeply integrated Apple Maps and navigation functions that come at no additional cost.
That approach contrasts with Ford’s existing Connectivity Package, which offers features such as in-vehicle 5G Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices, real-time connected navigation, Google and Alexa voice assistants, and streaming or productivity applications on the central display.
These connectivity services are part of a package that Ford charges for, while the Fathom’s announced navigation features are intended to be included at no extra cost.
The Fathom is expected to compete with more stripped-down electric pickups, including the upcoming Slate truck. However, Ford has yet to reveal the Fathom’s complete specifications, pricing or final production design.
With its unveiling planned for early 2027, additional prototype sightings could offer further clues about the truck before Ford provides its full details.
