Ford Fathom Is Shaping Up to Be a $30,000 Electric Pickup

Ford is preparing to bring a new electric pickup to market with a price designed to make EV ownership more accessible. The Ford Fathom will start at $28,350 before destination charges, putting its base price close to that of the gas-powered Ford Maverick.

The Fathom is still several months away from its full reveal, but Ford has already disclosed a number of details about the upcoming pickup, including its approximate size, powertrain configurations, technology and expected range.

Pricing and size

The Ford Fathom will start at $28,350, excluding a $1,595 destination freight charge. With that fee included, the starting price comes to $29,945.

That puts the electric pickup in roughly the same price territory as the Ford Maverick, which starts at $28,145 before destination charges.

The Fathom is also expected to have a footprint comparable to the Maverick. Ford says the two pickups will be similar in length and width, although the Fathom will have a midsize cabin expected to offer dimensions closer to the Ford Ranger, according to Ford Authority.

Ford has emphasized that the similarities between the two pickups will largely end with their proportions and price, with the Fathom receiving its own design.

Two electric powertrain options

The Fathom will be offered with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The base RWD configuration will use a single permanent-magnet electric motor mounted at the rear. The available AWD setup will add a second induction motor to the front axle.

Ford has not yet disclosed power figures, but the automaker has said the Fathom will accelerate similarly to the Mustang EcoBoost, which can reach 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.

Technology and features

Ford is positioning the Fathom as a technology-focused pickup, with several connected features integrated into its UEV platform.

The truck will include Apple Maps with navigation features at no additional cost. Those features include turn-by-turn directions using natural language, real-time traffic and incident information, detailed place information and routing options.

The Fathom will also offer BlueCruise as standard equipment, although continued access to the hands-free driving system is expected to require payment after an initial trial period.

Other features will include bidirectional charging and a digital key that allows owners to use a smartphone to unlock and start the pickup. A 15.5-inch infotainment display will sit in the center stack.

Around 300 miles of range

Ford is targeting approximately 300 miles of range from a single charge, although that figure is expected to apply to an optional battery rather than the standard pack.

The Fathom’s aerodynamic design is intended to reduce drag and help achieve that range without requiring an especially large battery. At least one battery option will use lithium iron phosphate chemistry.

The pickup will also feature a North American Charging Standard connector, allowing it to use compatible U.S. charging networks without an adapter.

Reveal and production

Ford is expected to reveal the Fathom in January 2027, with pre-orders expected to open shortly afterward.

Production is planned at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky. Ford is investing $2 billion to retool the facility for the new pickup, with the conversion process having begun in 2025.

Workers have been training on the new production equipment at Ford’s New Model Product Development Center in Michigan ahead of the Louisville plant’s transition.
