BYD’s Yangwang Raises U9 Electric Supercar Price by 7% to $252,630

BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang has increased the price of its U9 electric supercar by 7%, setting a new starting price of RMB 1.8 million ($252,630).

The price hike comes as other BYD brands focus on price cuts, signaling Yangwang’s premium positioning in China’s high-performance EV market. The brand continues to spotlight its technological dominance through its record-breaking supercar lineup.

Power-packed performance defines Yangwang’s flagship U9

Launched in February 2024, the two-seat Yangwang U9 is among the most powerful Chinese-built cars ever made. Its quad-motor setup produces a combined 960 kW (1,287 horsepower), allowing the vehicle to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 2.36 seconds, according to CNEV Post.

The model recently achieved verified top speeds of up to 391.94 km/h in testing and even broke global EV records with a 472.41 km/h run using a modified test vehicle. Customers ordering between October 1 and December 31 will receive a six-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty plus eight years of free maintenance.

U9 Xtreme version breaks global EV speed record

In September, Yangwang unveiled the U9 Xtreme, a limited-edition version restricted to 30 units worldwide. The Xtreme pushes boundaries even further with four 555 kW motors delivering a staggering 2,220 kW (2,977 horsepower) total output.

Certified testing at Germany’s ATP track confirmed a top speed of 496.22 km/h, officially making it the fastest production vehicle in the world. Yangwang’s broader lineup includes the U8 SUV and U7 sedan, with the brand reporting 758 total sales in September, up 144% year-over-year.
