Known as the 2025 BYD Shark, the PHEV will be called the Shark 6 Down Under in the Australian market. BYD’s timing appears strategic, with deliveries expected to start shortly after the order books open. This places the Shark 6 in a prime position to capitalize on Australia’s Fringe Benefits Tax exemptions for new PHEVs before they expire.

In terms of performance, the BYD Shark 6 will come in dual electric motors with 170kW in the front and 150kW at the rear. With a combined power output of 320 kW, the PHEV has an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. Moreover, it comes with a total range of 840 km (521 miles) with the electric-only range being 100 km (62 miles) through its 29.6 kWh battery capacity.

Competitive Pricing and Features

While official pricing is yet to be announced, a government database leak suggests a starting price of AUD 68,000 plus on-road costs according to Drive. This places the Shark 6 in direct competition with popular models like the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.

The Shark 6 will come equipped with BYD’s dual-mode off-road (DM-O) technology, tailored for off-roading capabilities. It also offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, allowing users to power external equipment, which is a feature sure to appeal to both tradespeople and outdoor enthusiasts.
