BYD Targets 1.5M Overseas EV Sales in 2026 Amid Global Expansion

BYD is reportedly raising its global ambitions, targeting a significant increase in overseas sales as it leans on international markets to offset pressure at home. The Chinese NEV giant is aiming to expand its footprint across key regions including Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia.

The update was reported by Bloomberg, citing people familiar with internal discussions.

BYD raises 2026 overseas sales target to 1.5 million units

BYD Company is now targeting 1.5 million overseas vehicle sales in 2026, according to the report.

That figure represents a 15% increase from the company’s earlier guidance of 1.3 million exports, which had already implied strong year-over-year growth, according to CNEV Post.

The revised target signals confidence from BYD’s management in its ability to scale internationally, particularly as domestic market conditions become more challenging.

The company’s export momentum has been accelerating. In 2025, BYD exported 1,046,083 new energy vehicles (NEVs), a 150% year-over-year increase.

Global expansion helps offset domestic pressures

BYD’s overseas sales are becoming a critical growth driver, with a balanced regional distribution across Europe, North America, and ASEAN, each contributing roughly one-third of exports.

The company’s overall performance has also been strong. BYD delivered 4.6 million NEVs globally in 2025, including a record 2.25 million battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

That total allowed BYD to surpass Tesla, Inc. in global BEV sales for the first time during the same period.

The push for higher overseas volumes reflects a broader strategy to diversify revenue streams and reduce reliance on China’s increasingly competitive EV market.
