Designed by renowned automotive designer Wolfgang Egger, the BYD Sealion 7 features sleek, aerodynamic styling with flowing character lines. Built on BYD’s new e-Platform 3.0 Evo architecture, the Sealion 7 promises faster charging and improved performance compared to BYD’s existing models.

The base Sealion 7 Comfort trim has a single rear motor producing 308 hp and 280 lb-ft, enabling 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds and a driving range of up to 300 miles. The mid-level Design trim adds a front motor for all-wheel drive, boosting output to 523 hp and 509 lb-ft, cutting the 0 to 62 mph time to 4.5 seconds but reducing the range to 283 miles.

At the top of the lineup is the Sealion 7 Excellence, with the same 523 hp powertrain but a larger 91.3 kWh battery that extends the range to an exceptional 312 miles. All models can charge from 10% to 80% in 32 minutes (24 minutes for the Excellence).

For the interior, the Sealion 7 features a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and BYD’s new “DiPilot 100” advanced driver assistance system with 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 mm-wave radars, and 11 cameras.

Expanding Reach in Europe and UK

BYD expects the Sealion 7 to “extend our reach” in Europe, where it will compete with the Tesla Model Y. Deliveries in Europe are slated to begin before the end of this year, followed by the United Kingdom (UK) market in early 2025. Pricing has yet to be announced, but the Sealion 7 is expected to be positioned above the brand’s Seal sedan, which starts at around €45,000 (around $47,690).

With its compelling combination of design, performance, technology, and range, the Sealion 7 represents a serious challenge to the Tesla Model Y and other top-selling electric SUVs in the European market. BYD’s continued expansion in Europe is sure to shake up the competitive landscape.
