BYD topped the United Kingdom’s plug-in electric vehicle sales charts in just 10 months.

BYD topped the United Kingdom’s plug-in electric vehicle sales charts in just 10 months. The BYD SEAL U DM-i is the UK’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV, surpassing 10,000 sales within 10 months after its launch.
According to SMMT data, this milestone underscores BYD’s rapid rise as the nation’s fastest-growing car brand. The Seal U DM-i is the Chinese automaker’s best-selling car in the UK. The popular PHEV makes up a third of the over 30,000 total vehicles BYD has sold since entering the UK market in 2023.
The SEAL U DM-i’s popularity stems from its blend of affordability, high-tech features, and long driving range. It is powered by an intelligent plug-in hybrid system that uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine only when necessary. The top-selling BYD PHEV delivers up to 699 miles on a full tank, enough for trips from Edinburgh to Paris.
Buyers can select from Comfort, Boost, and Design trims, with either front- or all-wheel drive. BYD also offers battery options for SEAL U DM-i customers, offering between 43 and 77 miles of electric range. According to Motor Trade News, all models are priced under £40,000, avoiding the UK’s luxury car tax.

Beyond performance and efficiency, the SEAL U DM-i offers advanced safety tech, spacious interiors, and smart connectivity features.
BYD’s UK Sales and Marketing Director, Steve Beattie, credits the model’s sales success to its strong value proposition and growing brand recognition. With a fast-expanding retailer network and an increasing range of electrified models, BYD is positioned to strengthen its role in the UK’s new energy vehicle sector.
