BYD Seagull Gets a Bigger Cabin and New Interior Design for Its Second Generation

BYD has revealed the first interior sketches of the second-generation Seagull, showing a minimalist cabin with a floating central touchscreen, a new two-spoke steering wheel and additional storage.

The redesigned electric hatchback will also be substantially larger, measuring 425 mm (16.7 inches) longer than the current model and gaining a fifth seat.

New Seagull cabin drops the digital instrument cluster

The official sketches show a dashboard built around straight lines, with the large floating center touchscreen retained from the current model. However, the second-generation Seagull drops the digital instrument cluster.

The center console includes an open storage area beneath it, along with wireless phone charging and two front cupholders. BYD also appears to have increased the number of storage compartments throughout the cabin, according to CNEV Post.

The latest interior preview follows exterior design sketches released on September 22, which showed a redesigned front end and trident-style lighting.

BYD has not yet announced a launch date or pricing for the new Seagull. Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean lineup sales division, said more information would be released soon.

Longer body brings five-seat configuration

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology filings show the second-generation Seagull measuring 4,205 mm (165.6 inches) long, 1,810 mm (71.3 inches) wide and 1,570 mm (61.8 inches) tall, with a 2,650-mm (104.3-inch) wheelbase.

The new model is 425 mm (16.7 inches) longer than the current Seagull, while its wheelbase grows by 150 mm (5.9 inches). Seating capacity increases from four to five, bringing the vehicle closer in size to the BYD Dolphin.

Both versions listed in the regulatory filings use a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing up to 95 kW (127 hp), compared with 55 kW in the previous generation. Both also use lithium iron phosphate batteries.

One of the two versions can be equipped with LiDAR along with front, rear and side radar sensors. BYD previously introduced a LiDAR option on the 2026 Seagull launched in May.

The current Seagull starts at 69,900 yuan and tops out at 85,900 yuan in China. The model delivered 529,537 units in 2025 and has surpassed 1.5 million cumulative sales since its April 2023 launch through the end of August 2026.
