The Partnership Will Start To Focus On Markets In France, The Netherlands, Belgium, And Luxembourg

In the European electric vehicle (EV) market, BYD formed a strategic partnership with French car-leasing firm Ayvens SA. This partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aiming to improve the distribution of BYD’s passenger EVs and light commercial EVs across key European markets.
In detail, the partnership will initially focus on France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, with plans to extend to over 30 European companies within the first year. Under the partnership agreement, Ayvens will provide a range of services for BYD including customer consultations, operational leasing, and charging services. Ayvens will also offer leasing options through BYD’s existing dealer network.
In addition, the partnership also includes plans for training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives, focusing on innovation in new energy vehicles and battery technology according to Ayvens.
Tim Albertsen, Group CEO of Ayvens, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership stating, “BYD is clearly at the forefront in new energy vehicle development. We are pleased to be joining forces with them to expand the availability of electric vehicles in Europe.”
Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD, echoed this sentiment while emphasizing the shared vision to accelerate the development of EVs in Europe adding, “Together we offer diverse, accessible and appealing products with pioneering innovation to incentivise the advancement of eco-friendly lease fleets. Globally, BYD innovation in sustainable technology is inspiring the future of mobility and delivering exceptional EV experiences, while fulfilling goals to help reduce carbon emissions.”

Notably, this partnership arrives at a crucial time for BYD as the company faces new challenges in the European market with the European Union (EU) recently impose new tariffs on Chinese EVs. Particularly, BYD EVs face a 17.4% tariff rate. Although the company is taking proactive steps to mitigate these challenges including the construction of a plant in Hungary to increase local production.
BYD’s European push is also further evidenced by its sponsorship of the upcoming Euro 2024 championships in Germany and its launch of seven EV models across various markets in Europe.
With this partnership signed, this becomes another addition into BYD’s European market strategy that will further boost the company’s global portfolio. As BYD receives crucial access to Europe’s lucrative corporate fleet market, this will constitutes more sales for the company and carry its position to become increasingly competitive in the EV industry.
