BYD Launches Sealion 05 with Lower Prices and Faster Charging

BYD has launched the updated Sealion 05 lineup in China, doubling down on aggressive pricing and upgraded EV tech to defend its market share.

The refreshed SUV range includes both hybrid and fully electric variants, with improved range, faster charging, and expanded driver-assistance features aimed at staying ahead in an increasingly competitive segment.

BYD upgrades Sealion 05 with longer range and faster charging

The new BYD Sealion 05 lineup includes the plug-in hybrid DM-i and fully electric EV versions, continuing BYD’s dual-powertrain strategy.

The Sealion 05 EV features BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast charging tech, enabling a rapid five-minute charge for significant range recovery. Total range now reaches up to 630 kilometers (CLTC), with 0–100 km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds, according to CNEV Post.

Pricing remains a key advantage. The EV variant starts at 119,900 yuan ($16,600 approx.), while the hybrid version begins as low as 97,900 yuan ($14,360), undercutting many rivals in the segment.

The hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i uses BYD’s fifth-generation DM system, achieving fuel consumption as low as 3.1L/100 km when battery levels are low, and a combined range of up to 2,105 kilometers.

Smart tech and pricing strategy target mass-market dominance

BYD is also enhancing its software and driver-assistance offering. Higher trims include the “God’s Eye C” system, while optional LiDAR enables more advanced “God’s Eye B” features, including urban navigation-assisted driving.

The model retains BYD’s Ocean design language, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase and an upgraded intelligent cockpit system, aligning with consumer demand for tech-rich interiors.

The launch reinforces BYD’s broader strategy of combining affordability with rapid innovation. As competition intensifies from both domestic and global automakers, the Sealion 05 positions BYD to maintain its leadership in China’s fast-moving EV market.
