BYD has officially launched the Seal 08 sedan in China, introducing the first model in its lineup to offer flash charging as standard across both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants.

Starting at 196,900 yuan (about $29,030), the new flagship sedan also debuts BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and targets the growing premium EV market.

Seal 08 brings high-performance charging and long-range options

The Seal 08 is offered in six variants, split evenly between battery-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The all-electric lineup starts at 196,900 yuan for the 775 km Premium model, while the flagship 905 km version is priced at 216,900 yuan. The range-topping all-wheel-drive variant starts at 239,900 yuan, according to CNEV Post.

BYD says the EV models are built on an 800-volt electrical architecture and feature the company’s second-generation Blade Battery. The top-spec version offers up to 905 km of CLTC driving range, while the flash charging system can add approximately 400 km of range in just five minutes under ideal conditions.

The plug-in hybrid lineup also starts at 196,900 yuan and offers up to 400 km of electric-only CLTC range along with a combined driving range of up to 1,660 km.

Performance is equally impressive. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive EV produces up to 510 kW (634 horsepower), enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.3 seconds. The all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid completes the same acceleration in 3.8 seconds.

Premium technology and comfort headline the new flagship

The Seal 08 measures 5.15 meters long and adopts BYD’s latest Ocean Aesthetics 2.0 design language with a fastback profile.

Every version comes standard with the LiDAR-equipped version of BYD’s God’s Eye B intelligent driving system, supporting city and highway navigation assistance, automatic emergency braking, and other advanced driver-assistance features.

The sedan also includes rear-wheel steering as standard, giving it a class-leading minimum turning radius of 4.95 meters. Higher trims add BYD’s DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension with road preview capability.

Inside, the cabin features dual zero-gravity front seats, while heating, ventilation, and massage functions are available for all seats.

The launch comes as BYD continues transitioning its lineup to the second-generation Blade Battery, a shift that temporarily affected production and delivery times for several models. The company recently reported a second consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth, while overseas deliveries reached a new record, underscoring its continued global expansion.
