BYD’s upcoming Da Han flagship sedan moved a step closer to launch after appearing in China’s latest regulatory filings, revealing a large premium sedan measuring more than 5.2 meters long and offering up to 764 horsepower. The model is expected to become the flagship sedan of BYD’s Dynasty lineup, positioned above the current Han sedan, as the automaker continues its push into China’s premium vehicle segment.

The filing also showed battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants, with the most powerful version capable of reaching a top speed of 270 km/h.

BYD unveils flagship sedan specifications

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published the Da Han’s filing on June 11 as part of its latest batch of vehicles seeking public feedback. BYD submitted three variants of the model, including two battery-electric versions and one plug-in hybrid version.

The Da Han measures 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,510 mm tall, riding on a 3,130 mm wheelbase. The sedan features a five-seat layout, a panoramic glass roof, and optional premium features such as a two-tone exterior finish and semi-hidden door handles, according to CNEV Post.

Performance figures place the Da Han firmly in flagship territory. The single-motor battery-electric variant produces 370 kW and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version combines a 200 kW front motor with a 370 kW rear motor for a total output of 570 kW, or 764 horsepower, enabling a top speed of 270 km/h. The plug-in hybrid variant pairs a 1.5-liter engine producing 115 kW with a 200 kW electric motor and can reach 225 km/h.

All versions utilize BYD’s Blade Battery technology based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry and are expected to feature the company’s second-generation battery system with flash-charging capability.

Da Han joins Da Tang in premium market expansion

The Da Han is set to launch alongside the upcoming Da Tang SUV, creating a new flagship duo for BYD’s Dynasty lineup. The company first revealed camouflaged images of the sedan on June 8, with Dynasty sales division general manager Lu Tian noting that “Da Han” emerged as the clear favorite among six finalist names suggested by the community.

The Da Tang has already demonstrated strong market interest ahead of its official June 17 launch. BYD reported more than 30,000 orders within the first 24 hours of pre-sales and over 100,000 pre-orders within two weeks. The SUV was introduced with pre-sale pricing ranging from 250,000 yuan ($36,920) to 320,000 yuan.

The launch of the Da Han and Da Tang comes as BYD’s sales performance showed signs of stabilization. The automaker reported wholesale sales of 383,453 new energy vehicles in May, representing a slight 0.26% increase year-over-year and ending eight consecutive months of sales declines.
