BYD Celebrates Its 14 Millionth NEV Milestone In Its Fresh Brazil Factory

BYD celebrated a major global milestone this week as its 14 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) rolled off the production line at its factory in Brazil. The milestone vehicle, a BYD Song Pro, was personally delivered to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during a ceremony on October 9.

BYD expands Brazil operations with Song Pro and Seagull production

BYD’s Brazil passenger car plant officially began operations on July 1, marking a new phase in its global expansion. The facility represents a $1 billion investment and targets an annual capacity of 150,000 NEVs in its first phase. Initial models include the Seagull, marketed as the Dolphin Mini locally, and the Song Pro, both of which are expected to anchor BYD’s regional lineup.

The company, which has operated in Brazil for over a decade, now counts more than 170,000 local vehicle owners and has led Brazil’s NEV market for two straight years, according to CNEV Post. BYD chairman Wang Chuanfu described the brand as not only an investor but also a “long-term partner” to the country. Ahead of the ceremony, the road leading to the factory was renamed “BYD Road,” making it the third global location to honor the brand in this way.

Global expansion and sales targets reflect BYD’s ambitions

The milestone in Brazil follows a series of landmark achievements for BYD’s international strategy. The company’s Thailand plant, which was opened in July 2024, became the site that produced the company’s 8 millionth NEV. The company’s 10 millionth NEV rolled off a Chinese production line less than a year later.

BYD had initially aimed for 5.5 million global sales in 2024 but has since adjusted that projection to 4.6 million, according to recent reports. With new markets opening and local production accelerating, BYD continues to position itself as the dominant global player among Chinese EV makers expanding abroad.
