In a new major milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, BYD marked a historic milestone on November 18th, rolling out its 10 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) and commemorating three decades of remarkable growth since its founding in 1995.
A Symbolic Gift: The 10 Millionth Vehicle
Founded in Shenzhen with just 20 employees and RMB 2.5 million in capital, BYD has transformed from a small battery manufacturer to the world’s largest NEV producer, now employing over 900,000 people globally.
The 10 millionth vehicle, a Denza Z9, was presented to Feng Ji, CEO of Game Science and creator of the anticipated game “Black Myth: Wukong” – symbolizing BYD’s expanding cultural and technological reach.
The Denza Z9 is offered in battery EV (BEV) and plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) variants. starting at RMB 334,800 ($46,270), the Denza Z9 arrives at the same price as the Z9GT.
Rapid Growth and Strategic Innovation
Company founder and CEO Wang Chuanfu reflected on BYD’s extraordinary journey, highlighting the company’s rapid acceleration in NEV production. Notably, while it took 15 years to produce the first 5 million vehicles, BYD achieved the next 5 million in just 15 months.
The company’s success stems from strategic vertical integration, with over 70% of vehicle components manufactured in-house. Key technological breakthroughs like the Blade Battery, DM hybrid system, and e-Platform 3.0 Evo have positioned BYD at the forefront of EV innovation.
Investment in AI and Smart Technologies
Moreover, BYD plans to invest RMB 100 billion in intelligent technologies, focusing on artificial intelligence integration and comprehensive vehicle upgrades. The company has introduced the “BYD Basic Guidelines,” a strategic framework outlining its future direction.
