BMW Drivers Gain Access to over 100,000 North America’s Expansive Charging Network through the My BMW App Now

In a significant move towards streamlining the electric vehicle (EV) charging process, BMW of North America has teamed up with Shell Recharge Solutions to launch ‘BMW Charging, Powered by Shell Recharge Solutions’. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in enhancing the charging experience for BMW electric vehicle drivers, offering them a seamless way to find, access, and pay for charging across more than 100,000 public chargers in North America via the My BMW App.
Announced on March 13, 2024, from Woodcliff Lake, NJ, this strategic partnership integrates Shell Recharge Solutions as a second eMobility provider alongside existing networks like ChargePoint, EVgo, EVConnect, and Blink. This integration allows BMW drivers to effortlessly locate and utilize a vast network of over 100,000 charging points in the U.S. and Canada, with all transactions smoothly processed through the My BMW app. This not only enhances convenience but also positions BMW Charging as a leader in providing accessible charging solutions to electric vehicle owners.
Shell Recharge Solutions’ innovative virtual Mobility Service Provider (vMSP) model is a game-changer, eliminating the hassle of managing separate accounts and applications for different charging providers. By consolidating all services within the My BMW app, customers now have the luxury of a unified platform offering comprehensive charging options, including complimentary charging with Electrify America and access to multiple provider networks across North America.
“Charging is a crucial element in delivering a superior customer experience for electric vehicle owners,” said Shaun Bugbee, Executive Vice President, Operations, BMW of North America. By simplifying the charging process, BMW underscores its commitment to providing a premium ownership experience, aligning with its reputation as a leading luxury automaker.
The pay-as-you-go model adopted by Shell Recharge is straightforward, requiring users to simply add a credit card to their account. The My BMW app enhances the charging experience by offering detailed information about each charging station, including ratings, reviews, and photos, ensuring drivers make informed decisions.
BMW’s electric and hybrid vehicle portfolio continues to grow, featuring models like the BMW i4 Gran Coupe, i5 Sedan, i7 Sedan, and the iX Sports Activity Vehicle, alongside plug-in hybrids such as the BMW 330e Sedan and the BMW X5 xDrive50e. This expansion, coupled with the new charging partnership, solidifies BMW’s position in the electric mobility space, offering customers innovative solutions and a diverse range of electric vehicles.
As BMW and Shell Recharge Solutions drive forward with this groundbreaking initiative, they pave the way for a future where electric vehicle charging is as effortless as the driving experience itself.
As the electric vehicle market evolves, partnerships like these are crucial in addressing the growing demand for efficient and accessible charging solutions, ultimately leading to a more sustainable future.
