BMW Launches iX3 as First Neue Klasse Production SUV

BMW has unveiled the iX3, the first production model from its Neue Klasse platform, positioning it as a major step in the brand’s electric transformation.

The SUV debuts with a competitive mix of range, performance, and sustainability features aimed squarely at the premium EV market. It also underscores BMW’s intent to move beyond niche experiments and anchor its lineup with competitive electric vehicles.

Range and charging technology

The iX3 offers up to 497 miles on the European test cycle, translating to an estimated 320–380 miles in the U.S., placing it ahead of most rivals in real-world usability. A dual-motor system delivers 470 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque, pushing the SUV from 0–60 mph in under five seconds, according to KSN.

Charging speed also stands out: a 10–80 percent fast charge takes just 21 minutes, while a quick 10-minute stop can add 217 miles. Bidirectional charging enables the iX3 to power homes or appliances, extending its role beyond transportation.

Interior design and sustainability

Inside, BMW pairs futuristic technology with practical usability. A 43-inch heads-up projection spans the windshield, complemented by a 17.9-inch central display angled toward the driver. Crucially, physical climate controls and tactile switches remain, offering a balance missing in many screen-heavy competitors.

Sustainability is another defining feature, with one-third of the vehicle built from recycled materials, seat fabrics spun from plastic bottles, mats from salvaged fishing nets, and 80 percent reused aluminum. Combined with 62 cubic feet of cargo space and a 4,400-pound tow rating, the iX3 blends everyday practicality with forward-looking design.
