With A New EREV Models, The Avatr 11 Delivers Up To 1,065 KM Of Range, Sleek Design, And A Competitive Price Point In China

Avatr Technology has launched an updated version of its Avatr 11 SUV, introducing extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options alongside its existing battery electric vehicle (BEV) models.

Avatr, a joint venture originally founded as Changan NIO in 2018 and now primarily owned by Changan Automobile (40%) and CATL (17%), has been making significant strides in the EV sector. The company, which benefits from technology partnerships with Huawei, has introduced the Avatr 11 EREV as its second model to offer both BEV and EREV options, following the successful launch of the Avatr 07 SUV.
Powered by CATL’s innovative Freevoy battery, the new Avatr 11 EREV offers a hybrid solution that addresses one of the primary concerns of EV buyers: range limitations. With a battery capacity of 39.05 kWh, the vehicle can travel up to 225 km on electric power alone, and a total range of 1,065 km when combining electric and extended-range capabilities.

The updated Avatr 11 is available in two EREV variants, starting at a competitive price of RMB 279,900 (around $38,400). This is notably more affordable than the BEV models, which range from RMB 339,900 to RMB 429,900. The EREV models feature a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km per hour in 6.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200 km per hour.
The battery technology is particularly impressive, with the ability to operate effectively in extreme temperatures ranging from -35°C to 65°C. A fast-charging capability allows the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes, addressing another critical concern for potential EV buyers.

The Avatr 11 maintains its distinctive design language, originally crafted by Nader Faghihzadeh, a designer with 17 years of experience at BMW. The SUV features unique elements like two-story headlights, a sleek roofline, retractable door handles, and a single taillight strip.

For the interior, the Avatr 11 arrives with several features that makes it stand out as a premium EV model. These notables features include a premium interior with a triple-screen layout, 25 Meridian speakers, and a large panoramic roof.

Avatr’s approach mirrors successful strategies employed by competitors like Li Auto, and follows the trend set by other startups such as Leapmotor and Neta, who have also begun offering EREV options. The company’s delivery numbers—31,663 vehicles in 2023 and 32,655 by July 2024—suggest a steady, if not explosive, growth trajectory.
With the success of the Avatr 07 and 11 in EREV configurations, the company is considering extending the extended-range technology to its Avatr 12 model by the end of the year. This suggests a strategic commitment to providing flexible, range-confident EV options to Chinese consumers.
