2027 GMC Sierra EV Gets New Performance Brake Kit

The 2027 GMC Sierra EV is adding a new performance brake kit that brings upgraded Brembo hardware to several versions of the electric pickup.

The dealer-installed package will include six-piston front calipers, larger rotors and upgraded brake pads, giving buyers another way to enhance the truck’s stopping capability.

Brembo brakes bring more stopping power

The new Front and Rear Performance Brake Kit, identified by RPO code 5JL, uses red Brembo six-piston calipers on the front axle along with oversized rotors and brake pads. The front calipers carry GMC branding, while the rear calipers are also finished in red.

The package will be available as a dealer-installed option on the Elevation Standard Range, Elevation Extended Range, Denali Extended Range and Denali Max Range configurations, according to GM Authority.

It will not be offered on the AT4 Extended Range or AT4 Max Range.

GMC has not yet announced pricing for the brake kit.

The upgrade could be particularly relevant for the Sierra EV’s substantial weight. Depending on its configuration and battery pack, the electric pickup weighs between 7,573 and 8,867 pounds (3,435 to 4,022 kilograms).

Sierra EV gets brake upgrade as lineup changes

The performance brake package was previously available on the Chevrolet Silverado EV as part of the 2026 Silverado RST Stars & Steel Special Edition package. Chevrolet will not offer the upgrade on the 2027 Silverado EV, making the Sierra EV the only one of the two GM electric pickups to offer the brake kit for the 2027 model year.

The Sierra EV continues to use a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain across its 2027 lineup, although output varies by configuration. The Denali Max Range is the most powerful version, producing 760 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque.

The 2027 Sierra EV will continue production on GM’s BT1 platform at the Factory Zero plant in Hamtramck, Michigan. The facility also builds the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Hummer EV.

Production of 2027 model-year Sierra EV trucks is scheduled to begin Oct. 12, 2026.
